First Rate Credit Union's 40th Anniversary

The 15th June marks a huge day in the history of First Rate Credit Union as we celebrate our 40th anniversary, exclusively serving the amazing people of BAE Systems.
The Credit Union was born in 1982 in the Warton hangars, and two of the people who formed it, John Geraghty and Les Walker still sit on the Board of Directors to this day as President and Chairman.

We’ve come a long way since collecting coins in a cash tin in the Warton hangars and since issuing the first loan of £250 for a holiday. (That was a decent holiday back then!)

Over the decades we have helped more and more BAE systems people with building vital savings and accessing affordable credit.

We expanded out from Warton, first to Samlesbury and later to Barrow-in-Furness with our most recent Drive to Digital opening us up to BAE systems people across the country and we are now proud to serve members across the UK from Portsmouth to Lossiemouth and are managing over £17 million for over 5000 BAE systems people and their families.

This week we celebrate our 40th Anniversary in style, revealing our fresh new brand image and modern, clean web site with more upgrades to products and services to come in the months ahead as we celebrate the past and look forward to the future.

But there’s more.

For this major milestone anniversary, we are launching our biggest ever competition, giving members the opportunity to win a Car! That’s right, a shiny new Toyota Yaris Hybrid will be given away to the winning member, not only giving them a new car but as a hybrid it will help them to save money on fuel and to help the environment.
