A Year of Growth: Isaac’s Journey Through the CU Futures Programme

We’re proud to celebrate an incredible milestone for one of our own—our Member Services Agent, Isaac (Pictured far right), has successfully completed the CU Futures programme.

CU Futures is a year-long development course run by the Credit Union Foundation and supported by ABCUL. It’s designed to develop young professionals working in credit unions across the UK, giving them the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become future leaders of the movement.

For Isaac, the journey was challenging, eye-opening, and deeply rewarding.

What the CU Futures Programme Involved

Over twelve months, Isaac took part in a wide range of activities that blended professional development with real-world credit union experience:

  • Leadership Training: Isaac gained valuable insight into leadership styles, strategic thinking, and the challenges facing the sector.

  • Mentoring: He worked closely with senior figures in the movement, learning first-hand how to balance innovation with purpose.

  • Residential Events: These intensive events offered immersive learning with fellow CU Futures participants, building not only skills but strong peer connections.

  • ABCUL Conference Participation: Isaac took to the national stage, attending key industry events and engaging in high-level conversations about the future of credit unions in the UK.

  • Team Project: The cohort collaborated on a major group project aimed at solving real issues facing the sector—Isaac played a key role in researching, shaping, and presenting their solution.

What Isaac Achieved

Isaac’s development over the course of the year has been remarkable. He approached each challenge with energy and curiosity, and his confidence grew with every module. Through CU Futures, he has not only sharpened his technical and interpersonal skills, but also found his voice as a representative of the next generation of credit union professionals.

One of his proudest moments was presenting his group’s final project to senior industry leaders—an experience that pushed him outside his comfort zone and proved just how far he’s come.

What This Means for First Rate

Isaac’s achievement isn’t just a personal milestone—it’s a win for First Rate too. His insights, passion, and fresh ideas will feed back into our work. Whether it’s finding better ways to support our members, streamlining internal processes, or helping us think more strategically, Isaac’s CU Futures experience will make a real difference to our future.

We’re incredibly proud of his success and excited to see how he continues to grow and lead within our team.

Well done, Isaac—you’ve done yourself and the credit union movement proud.
